Hidden Places In Italy You Should Visit

Hugo Chetcuti’s passion for good Italian food is only matched by his love for the country itself and all it has to offer. Italy is not named the birthplace of Western civilization for nothing; its contribution to the arts, law and philosophy have influenced the world as we know it today. We’ve all heard or been to places such as Rome, Florence and Pisa – but how well do you know those secret treasures hidden amongst these cultural giants?

Hugo Chetcuti’s team has put together a few ideas to add to your itinerary for the next time you plan to visit this magical place.

The Cascate del Varone Waterfall

This stunning natural attraction can be found in the town of Tenno, in the northern province of Trentino. It lies amongst the majestic green mountains of Lake Garda, enveloped by luscious and rich vegetation as the clear water cascades throughout. Because of its unique beauty, it has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area. Staircases and balconies have been built to accommodate visitors and act as a platform from where people can enjoy the view.

Hugo Chetcuti recommends: Costa degli Dei

A coastline that lives up to its name (Coast of the Gods) and more, Costa degli Dei is home to some seriously spectacular sights. It stretches along the south of the Calabrian coast, boasting views that are out of this world along with charming little towns and beautiful beaches. Tropea is arguably the high point of the area, situated on a cliff and home to Franciscan monasteries and Norman cathedrals. Don’t forget to sample some red onion ice cream while you’re there!

Pantelleria

You might recognise this name as it was in the local headlines not too long ago! Rugged yet gorgeous in its own way, this hidden island is a popular getaway for celebrities like Madonna, Giorgio Armani and Sting. It’s so small that it only takes 45 minutes to drive across, giving you plenty of time to stop and soak up the sun, enjoy the hot springs and relax in the crystal clear blue waters.

Isola Bella

As the name itself suggests, this small yet pretty Borromean island is a beauty, situated in the north of Italy. Popular with tourists and locals, it transports visitors by way of a ferry service. Its unique architecture forms part of an old medieval village, with ornate statues and lush, tropical gardens to walk through and marvel at.
