Add Extra Flavour With These Incredible Ingredients

Hugo Chetcuti’s selection of classic and gourmet Pizzas (as well as calzones and focaccias) are already so delicious on their own that it’s difficult to think of a more satisfying lunch or dinner. However, sometimes even the best of us get extra cravings or want to indulge in some of our favourite toppings. That’s why we’ve included a special section of everyone’s favourite ingredients as extras. Have a look at some of the tastiest below.

Candied Walnuts

These sweet treats make for quite an interesting addition on top of a pizza or foccacia. As with many nuts, they pair particularly well with different cheeses, especially ones with strong flavours. In fact, you’ll find a generous helping of candied walnuts on the Golden Pyrus gourmet pizza, which is topped with both gorgonzola cheese and mozzarella fior de latte.

Salami Spianata

Spicy and fiery, this speciality from the southern region of Calabria is bound to add a kick to any pizza. The word spianata means “flattened” in Italian, referring to the way the salami is prepared. Unless you want to end up breathing fire by the end of your meal, be careful not to add on too much – the meat is made with fresh red chilli peppers and has a very strong, hot flavour. You can find this ingredient on our Diavolo pizza, as well as the Hot ‘n’ Spicy calzone.

Prosciutto Cotto

As Hugo Chetcuti’s chefs well know, there’s no doubting the perfection of Italian prosciutto. This low-salt, boiled ham is a perfect pairing for pizzas and calzones, lending its strong and unique flavour to any assortment of ingredients. It can be found inside our Classic Calzone and the Cappriciosa Pizza.

Pecorino Cheese

Salty in flavour and hard in texture, this cheese is a favourite with Italians. Originating from Lazio, Tuscany and Sardinia, pecorino is made from sheep’s milk (pecora means sheep in Italian).  Because it crumbles easily, it’s an excellent cheese for grating over pasta dishes or over pizza toppings. You can find it in a number of our gourmet pizzas and inside the Pumpkin Calzone.

Pancetta

This irresistible Italian bacon is usually eaten raw in its home country, after being cured and thinly sliced. This results in a chewy and satisfying texture, with a salty, delicious taste lingering on the tongue. It’s used as part of the topping on the Royal Supreme gourmet pizza and the Black Forest.
